September Seasonal Eating Guide
Happy September, y’all! I decided to start putting together seasonal eating guides for each month as a reference for you, dear readers. Pin it, share it, print it! These lists will be a little skewed toward the Southeastern US because that’s what I know. And while it’s certainly not all inclusive, I hope it can be a helpful guide.
This is a fun month because late summer produce–summer squash, tomatoes, corn, and eggplant– get company with the first of the fall produce. Winter squash is a little bit of a misnomer in that it’s actually harvested in late summer, at least here in the South. This group–including butternut squash, pumpkins, acorn squash, delicata squash, spaghetti squash, red curry squash, and many more–gets its name from the ability to store for a long time (presumably through the winter). Just make sure you keep it in a cool, dry place. There is a lot of great fruit around this month: the last of the peaches along with plums, figs, pears, grapes, and apples!
